Carpet care and maintenance to protect your investment

  • Thoroughly vacuum carpet at least once a week to remove dry soil and debris. First work in vertical passes and then change directions going horizontally. Multiple passes in different directions ensures anything loosened up in the first pass will be collected on the following passes.

  • Get your carpet professionally cleaned once a year at the very least and you can avoid the up-charge for deep cleaning when heavy traffic stains or soiling has set in. Regular basic cleaning can avoid more costly deep cleaning in the long run and protect your investment. It can also protect you and your family's health by removing toxins, allergens, and mold with a yearly hot water rinse. I've personally seen 40 year old carpet that looked brand new from following regular maintenance recommendations. Below is the dump water from a carpet deep cleaning after 4-5 years without professional cleaning.

  • In case of a spill or pet stain, do not look for solutions with Google searches. You can get lots of conflicting information and some of the "home made stain removers" can actually bleach or permanently damage your carpet. Soak up the liquid the best you can with a dry or moist absorbent cloth. Do not over wet as this can cause stains to spread even further. Especially with pet stains that contain strong odors, the best option is to keep it isolated so as not to damage the backing/padding and subfloor. These organic stains/odors soak into everything and can be impossible to remove without professional help.
